Italian Gardens, Penarth

postcard postcard postcard postcard postcard postcard postcard

Italian Gardens is a formal, terraced, rock garden facing the Penarth Esplanade, and was created in the mid 1920s as one of several initiatives to improve the Penarth seafront. As is shown from the postcard captions, Italian Gardens had several other names - Rock Garden, Promenade Garden, Esplanade Gardens - before its present name was adopted. There is a section which explores the documented history of Italian Gardens, and in addition there is an aerial photograph taken in 1977.
